Mainframes: Landscape and Social Change in Poughkeepsie
Lecture with Dr. Harvey Flad, Professor of Geography, Vassar College
Join PCHS for a lecture about the growth, decline and revitalization of Poughkeepsie, New York, a city that closely parallels many others in the Hudson Valley. Flad will tell the story of Poughkeepsie's transformation over the past three centuries- from an agricultural market town, to a small city with a diversified economy centered on Main Street, to an urban region dependent on the success of one corporation- and how this transformation has affected the lives and landscapes of its inhabitants.
Lecture is $5 for the general public, free to members and donors. RSVP to office@pchs-fsm.org or call 845-265-4010. The Putnam County Historical Society is located at 63 Chestnut Street in Cold Spring.
